The City of Sedalia has activated the EMERGENCY SNOW ROUTES beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 as the National Weather Service has reported the potential for steadily falling temperatures with rain beginning late Friday afternoon, changing over to snow with accumulations from 1-3 inches overnight. Please click here to view the January 18, 2019 public service announcement issued by the City of Sedalia.

Drivers who routinely park on streets designated as Emergency Snow Routes will need to move their vehicles to other locations as snow is expected to accumulate during nighttime hours. City crews will be working overnight Friday to ensure Emergency Snow Routes remain open. Cars remaining parked on emergency snow routes may be towed or plowed in as crews work to keep these roadways open for emergency vehicles.

A map detailing Snow Emergency Routes may be viewed here.

Public Works Department

Public Works oversees, inspects and maintains infrastructure within the City as well as providing environmental services that help keep Sedalia productive, thriving and healthy. Using good design practices, we plan and have constructed or maintained a safe transportation system, an effective stormwater management system, treat wastewater to meet federal and state compliance standards, inspect sanitary sewer service lines and connections, timely collect residential and commercial refuse and recyclable materials, and manage the City's fleet, vehicles and equipment. Public Works staff is responsible for inspecting work performed by our City employees, developers and independent contractors. Public Works staff also works closely with Community Development and other City staff to ensure the continued growth of our community. While continued growth is one of our primary considerations, sustainable growth and a better quality of life can only be achieved if we remain vigilant in our protection of public health, ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations and continue to protect our limited natural resources.

Public Works is made up of Project Management and Inspection staff and four Departments:

Project Management and Inspection staff provide administrative services including contract management and oversight of contracted engineering projects and planning and supervision of infrastructure projects undertaken by the Public Works Department. These staff are responsible for establishing priorities for work to be performed, preparing budgets, plans, bid specifications, contract documents and ensuring quality control over projects undertaken by Public Works. This work includes the coordination of external engineering firms and other contractors, including inspection activities. Project Management and Inspection staff are involved on a daily basis with projects including streets, the sanitary sewer collection system and wastewater treatment plants, stormwater management and industrial, commercial and residential development review. This staff is also responsible for maintaining the Geographic Information System (GIS) used to manage information including: zoning, sewer, stormwater, street, pavement management, tree management, flood plain and digital imagery. The GIS provides easy access to mapping and system management data.
