City Council Approves Clean Air Ordinance
Following months of in-depth discussions and research by City Council members, public input, and public opinion surveys by local media, the Sedalia Council overwhelmingly approved the Sedalia Clean Air Indoor Act of 2013. Also known as the anti-smoking ordinance, work on the legislation began in April when the City Council instructed staff to begin researching the issue. Approved by the City Council on June 17th during a regular meeting, the final vote was 6 in favor and 2 in opposition. The new law is nearly all inclusive. However, private clubs, such as VFW and Moose are exempted, except during times they have public events. The ordinance goes into effect in September.
