Fire Prevention Week

Every 20 seconds in the United States, a Fire Department is dispatched in response to a fire.  In 2007, more than $10 billion in property was damaged as a result of a fire and more than 3,000 civilians died in structure fires.

The week of October 5 - 11 is National Fire Prevention Week and the Sedalia Fire Department encourages all Sedalians to take steps to protect life and property from fire damage.  The Department, in cooperation with the National Fire Protection Association, has put together some fast tips to stay safe from fires.

Fall Clean-Up Week - October 27-31

Time to clear out the clutter! The City of Sedalia will hold its annual Fall Clean-up Week October 27 - 31. During clean-up week, residents can discard large, unwanted items not normally picked up with trash collection. Please note that brush, rocks, building materials, leaves, grass, tires, batteries, or any hazardous materials may NOT be discarded as a part of clean-up week. Brush, grass and other yard waste may be brought to the City's Yard Waste Drop Off site at 28th Street and New York Avenue.

City trucks will follow the refuse trucks on their normal pick-up routes only. Please note that unwanted items must be placed in the same location as items for regular refuse collection and that items for pick-up should be placed out only on your regularly scheduled collection day.

City Sets United Way Goal

The City of Sedalia has set its goal for employee contributions to Sedalia's United Way support.  The 2008 goal marks a 20% increase over the 2007 campaign.

The City offers employees the ability to have donations deducted directly as a part of the payroll program or to make a one-time contribution.  Employees can designate their contribution to go to one of a variety of local organizations, including the Boy or Girl Scouts, Central Missouri Food Bank, the American Red Cross, the Sedalia Senior Center and many more.

As a part of the 2007 United Way campaign, City employees contributed more than $5,000 to the community.

State Fair Boulevard under Construction

The southbound lane of State Fair Boulevard between W. Broadway Boulevard and W. 16th Street is scheduled to close on Monday, September 22 for reconstruction.  This project will close that portion of southbound State Fair Boulevard to traffic; however, as much possible, the intersection at 11th Street will remain open to traffic.

Southbound traffic should plan to use S. Limit Avenue or Thompson Boulevard to avoid the construction project.

The southbound portion of State Fair Boulevard is expected to reopen in January, 2009.
