The City of Sedalia has several ways that citizens can get involved to protect local streams and rivers through the stormwater management program. Storm Drain Stenciling Volunteers will be asked to paint inlets with a stenciling tool that reads “Dump No Waste Drains to Streams” This is beneficial to stormwater quality by allowing people to realize where the water entering these inlets is designed to go.
Stormwater Outfall Cleaning You or your group can help remove debris that contaminates the creeks and rivers around Sedalia. We have ten locations from which to choose. Some groups may want to maintain a particular location throughout the year.
Adopt a Storm Drain Inlet This Volunteer Service consists of adopting a storm drain, whether it is in front of your house or someone else’s. You may adopt as many as you like, but hurry they are going quick. Adopting a storm drain means keeping it clean from debris and other materials by cleaning it regularly.
Civilian Watch Group Just looking out your window or being observant in your neighborhood and reporting illegal dumping to the Stormwater Hotline can be of great value in protecting our local bodies of water. Callers can remain anonymous.
Drainage Basin This volunteer service consists of cleaning drainage basins and ditches.
For more information on getting involved, contact Brooke Huddleston at (660) 827-7830 or at bhuddleston@cityofsedalia.com.
