Information Technology
Sedalia's Information Technology Office operates in the Administration Department and is responsible for implementation of the City's IT plan. The IT plan is a comprehensive effort to improve efficiency and reduce costs through common software and hardware platforms across City operations.
The City began standardizing computer operating systems in 2006. The City of Sedalia maintains office facilities at several locations around Sedalia and having offices operating on standard systems reduces cost and improves compatabilitiy across operations. The City also implimented a standard e-mail address scheme utilizing a new domain name, cityofsedalia.com. The new e-mail system reduces the cost of maintaining several hosting accounts and presents a common and uniform face of City government to the public.
In 2007, the position of IT Manager was created to oversee the IT operations of the City. The IT Office continues work on reducing the number of printers at City facilities to eliminate the need for multiple ink and toner cartridges and to reduce operating costs by networking computers to high volume copiers throughout City Hall.
The City launched its new website in October, 2007. The site offered the City an improved web presence, new methods of communicating with its citizens and new opportunities for citizens, businesses and visitors alike to interact with City government. New features include a City master calendar, e-Notify Me! services, City staff directories and web access to City Council meeting packets.
