That's all that seperates Sedalia, Missouri and Whiteman Air Force Base.
20 miles...to the great schools of the Sedalia 200 school district.
20 miles...to the historic, tree-lined neighborhoods of a place worth calling home.
20 miles from your front door to Whiteman's front gate.
Sedalia and Whiteman Air Force Base go way back. From its earliest days as Sedalia Glider Base and Sedalia resident and base namesake 2nd Lieutenant George A. Whiteman to recent efforts to retain and grow Air Force operations at Whiteman, the base and community share a special relationship. That relationship, more than sixty years in the making, extends well beyond the gates of the base.
Sedalia is honored and privileged to welcome so many Whiteman families to our community. From the drive down Broadway Boulevard with its beautiful turn-of-the-century homes to new residential developments throughout the City and from historic downtown Sedalia to exciting new shopping and dining opportunities now being constructed, Sedalia is a growing community that is working hard to maintain its family-friendly way of life.
Sedalia schools continue to grow to meet the needs of the children in our community. Renovations have added classroom space in the last year and a new, state-of-the-art high school will be opening during 2009 to educate the next generation of Sedalians.
Outdoor enthusiasts find quick access to the Katy Trail State Park, fishing at local lakes and a full slate of sporting opportunities through our Parks and Recreation program. The Missouri State Fair, the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival and the Daum Museum all welcome visitors from across the state and around the world – adding to the excitement and uniqueness of Sedalia.
All of this – only 20 miles.
